Patel wishes to make ISL the tournament of SAFF Region

All India Football Federation (AIFF) launched a tournament of its own kind with the Hero Indian Super League (ISL). With the joint efforts of IMG – Reliance and Star TV, the tournament created quite a stir amongst the football fans not only in India but also in different parts of the world. With the participation of top players like Luis Garcia, Alessandro Del Pierro and Robert Pires, the tournament received an overwhelming response all across the nation.

AIFF President Praful Patel recently announced in the 3rdInternational Convention on Football Business at the FICCI House that he wants to make Indian Super League a tournament of the SAFF Region. Patel also shared some of the anecdotes when the ISL was originally conceptualized and how AIFF faced a stream of criticism and skeptical attitude taking a wrong decision. AIFF was highly criticized for taking an off route from the conventional method. But Patel stressed that ISL was a much needed tournament for the Indian Football to give the sport a new direction in India.

Praful Patel profile remained to be a significant aspect in motivating the AIFF in the most positive direction. According to AIFF President, ISL gave the much needed fillip, impetus and boost to Indian Football. In ISL, the average attendance was around 25000 while in IPL it stays at 29000. It has become imperative to improve standard of the game and also to enhance the quality of the competition. The level of the competition, according to Patel, needs to be changed and everyone needs to concentrate on building the National Team.
