BHEL to explore more options related to infrastructure says Praful Patel

Apart from Railway and Power, it is time that BHEL explores more options in the field of infrastructure and leaves an indelible mark overseas, says Heavy Industries Minister Praful Patel. BHEL has been instrumental in the execution of the country’s mega projects. Currently, it also has an important role to play, during the implementation of world’s largest single location Solar Power Plant project, to be set up in Rajasthan. This project would generate power of around 4000 MW of solar generated power.

In a review of the company, Praful Patel advised BHEL to explore possibilities of diversification in both related and unrelated areas, including Mass Rapid Transport systems, water treatment, an official statement said. To add to the tally, Patel also emphasized on BHEL increasing its market presence and exploring more options, overseas as well. BHEL is a Heavy Industries giant that is functioning under its chief PB Rao. Mr. Rao also got his term of office extended by a period of two years, after reaching his superannuation age. At the moment, Patel wants BHEL to pull up its socks to compete in domestic as well as international markets.

Keeping in mind the renewable energy sector, Patel has also called for a report on the company’s marauds. According to reports for the year 2010-2011, BHEL has commissioned thermal and hydro power equipment, with a cumulative capacity of 7,900 MW this fiscal, it had synchronized 8,108 MW capacity in that particular fiscal year.

Currently, BHEL holds the potential to deliver 15000 MW of power and a further increase of 20,000 MW of energy, is underway. Praful Patel’s contributions, towards the growth of the Heavy Industries have been spectacular, ever since he became a part of the same. With a few more mega projects about to get underway in 2014, we believe that there is immense scope of growth for the Heavy Industries, in the years to come.
