The Medical Conference of the Asian football has been postponed for a while. The decision was based upon the recommendation of the AFC Medical Committee and subsequent to the consultation with the relevant authorities as well as FIFA. The AFC has become much cautious with the continuous rise in the number of individuals affected by swine flu. The federation has recorded more than 25, 000 cases and in excess of 1300 reported deaths. It has been said that the unrecorded cases should surpass that figure and the United Arab Emirates has become the first country to advise its citizens to postpone their visit to India.
Dato Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Chairman, AFC Medical Committee and Organizing Committee of the 5th AFC Medical Conference asserted that the AFC is concerned with the risk of exposure and safety of its delegates participating in the conference. The decision, according to Singh, was not an easy decision to make keeping in mind the huge effort put into its organization, its financial implications and disruption in travel and so on. Multiple experts are travelling to the conference has expressed their concerns and supported AFC’s action by echoing that prevention and safety is important.
