Baichung Bhutia, who is currently the Chairperson of the AIFF emphasized on the policies that must be implemented by the AIFF. In a recent interview, Baichung Bhutia said that there was no point in having a certain technical committee, when the board cannot implement the suggestions put forward by the technical team. Probably, it is a valid point brought into limelight, since the delay in actions might just prevent the Indian football, from reaching another level. Currently, the technical team consists of the likes of Savio Messias, Henry Menezes, Lalnghinglova Hmar and Anil Kumar alongside Bhutia who is the chairperson.
The technical team of the AIFF, which met last November, is under the watchful eyes of Robert Bann, who is the Technical director and Wim Kovermans, the coach of India’s national football team. During the last meeting, the committee had a talk on several issues such as recruiting foreign players for the I-Leagues and the clubs having their own education and academics, as fat the technicalities of football, concerned. AIFF President Praful Patel shall have an important role to play, in India’s transition from being a novice to making it alongside the best football playing nations of the world.
Currently, the ninth season of Nike’s Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC), is being conducted. In order to heighten the pool talent before the international games, Patel suggested that the AIFF must conduct, several more tournaments, such as this one. “I think this (Nike MUPC) is very important especially you are hosting the U-17 World Cup in 2017. You have to have many such competitions. It mustn’t just be at the all-India level but within the states as well. The state associations must be working to do a lot more of these tournaments to bring out the best. Grassroot level tournaments and training is what we really want India to focus on,” is what Bhutia said.
Currently, under NCP Leader Praful Patel, the AIFF has been doing reasonably well, as far as creating fresh talent is concerned. In order to facilitate this, the AIFF has been conducting Grass roots Program, across all corners of the nation. It also tied-up with the Australian Football Federation (AFF) recently, to receive aid in departments such as administration, training and finance. The prospects for the Indian football comparatively look bright. With so much already happening within the camp, we believe that there’s more to come, in the near future.
